The Castle Rametz

In the rural Merano district of Labers, Castle Rametz towers above the town centre surrounded by noble vineyards. Many different varieties of grape have prospered here since the 13th century, thanks to its particularly favourable location. In the year 1860 the Pinot noir grape variety was cultivated for the first time in South Tyrol in the castle's vineyards; winegrowers began cultivating Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon at about the same time. Today the castle features a successful winery, a small museum of viticulture and a restaurant. Wine tastings with experienced sommeliers and castle tours provide an interesting way to learn about the history of viticulture and the castle itself.
